Position Details:

Patient Account Representative 

Full-time 30/40 hours a week, Monday-Friday, Benefited position

Position Summary: 

 A Patient Account Representative manages several tasks related to patient accounts for the Chadron Community Hospital and The Legend Buttes Rural Health Clinic. Daily duties include, collecting payments, resolving problems, attending to inquiries regarding an account. Due to the nature of the job, patient account representatives must interact with and manage patients on a regular basis.

  •  Answers Business Office incoming phone calls and walk-ins.  Respond to customer inquiries that may include charge estimates, clarifying billing practices, correctness of billing, and options for resolving private pay balances.
  • Note accounts of any and all communications including phone calls.
  • Scan documentation into accounts as necessary.
  • Open Business Office mail and prepare deposit.  Distribute other mail accordingly.
  • Train as back-up for payment posting.
  • Learn CCH electronic health record system and demonstrate proficiency in daily activities.
  • Identify and resolve credit balances on patient accounts.
  • Apply account adjustments according to CCH procedures.
  • Assist patients with the application process for financial assistance.
  • Comply with HIPAA compliance guidelines, policies and procedures to assure confidential information is protected in accordance with the HIPAA rules and regulations.
  • Follows and adheres to all safety policies and procedures specified by hospital administration, federal, state, or local regulation.
  • Create and review reports as needed to perform duties.
  • Willing to learn and train for medical billing.
  • Other related duties as assigned.

 

Knowledge of:

  • Medical Terminology needed for billing purposes.
  • Continuing Education is required to maintain knowledge of changes in CMS and related areas of billing, reimbursement, and compliance.

Education:                                                        

  • High school diploma required 
  • College degree preferred but not required

Experience Required:  

  • Computer skills are necessary
  • Ability to learn and utilize efficiently various hospital computer systems and/or programs
  • Strong customer service skills are required
  • Experience in insurance billing with an emphasis on Rural Health Clinic desired
  • Knowledge of hospital information system desired
  • Experience working with healthcare payers desired
  • Experience with electronic health records
