Full-time, 30-40 hours a week, hourly.
Benefited position after 60-day waiting period. Eligible for sign-on bonus.
Monday-Friday, generally 7a-3:30p, rotating on-call (evenings, weekends, holidays).
Position Summary:
Works as part of the surgical team under the direction of surgeons or registered nurses. Contributes safety and efficiency of the surgical team by performing a wide variety of tasks before, during, and after operations.
Primary duties and responsibilities:
- Tasks that may be required before surgery may include:
- Ensuring accurate patient identification participation in all Time Out procedures.
- Transporting patients to the operating room.
- Positioning patients on the operating table and covering them with sterile drapes.
- Prepare the operating room by setting up trays of instruments and arranging equipment and supplies that will be sued during the operation in accordance with the Surgeon's preference card.
- Tasks that my be required during the operation:
- Pass instruments to the Surgeon or Surgeon's assistant.
- Adjust equipment as needed to include lighting, specialty ESU tips etc.
- Hold retractors, perform and acticipate other tasks as needed.
- Before the incision is closed, participate in counting sponges, needles, and other items used during the operation to ensure that nothing is left in the patient.
- Maintain a clean sterile back table and field.
- Use safe passing techniques for all sharps.
- Continually monitor the integrity of the field and scrubbed personnel.
- Following Surgery:
- Clean and restock the operating room.
- Process instruments.
- Prepare for the following procedure.
- Additional tasks may include:
- Apply dressing (bandages).
- Prepare specimens that are removed from the patient for testing.
- Operate a variety of specialized equipment using Manufacturer's Instructions for use as a guide.
- Dispose of specimens and contaminated materials appropriately in accordance with hospital, state, and federal regulations.
- Other duties as assigned within the scope of practice.
Experience:
- Must be knowledgeable in operation of surgical, disinfecting, and sterilization equipment.
- Preferred:
- Graduation from a CAAHEP-accredited program and passing a national examination leading to certification from the Liaison Council on Certification of the Surgical Technologist. The accrediting body for surgical technology programs in the Commission on Accreditation of Allied Health Education Programs (CAAHEP).
- On the job training available.
Certifications:
- Current CPR
- Certification as a Surgical Technologist, preferred.
