Full-time, Hourly, Benefited position.

Up to four 10 hour shifts, call is mandatory, rotating call weekends & holidays. 

Job Summary:

The Radiologic Technologist is in charge of performing X-ray examinations ordered by physicians, PAs, CNPs. They must work closely with the Physicians, PAs, NPs, Radiologists as well as other Radiology personnel and the Director of Radiology. They are in charge of keeping current with the department Policies and Procedures, as well as the Procedures set forth by the Radiologist group, Ordering Supplies, Equipment Maintenance and following Rules, Regulations and Guidelines for the Radiology Department.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • The Radiologic Technologist is responsible for the care and safety of patients undergoing examinations and use of equipment to minimize hazards of electric shock, burns to patients and personnel.
  • They are responsible for care and operation of X-RAY equipment.
  • They are responsible for maintenance of records, stocking of supplies and helping with scheduling.

II. The following activities are unique to this position.

  1.  They must maintain credentials for themselves and remain in good standing and up to date on licenses with the ARRT and the State of Nebraska.
  2.  Insure appearance of the X-RAY rooms.
  3. Follow infection control guidelines in conjunction with the hospital infection control committee.
  4. Be responsible for attendance of hospital in services and outside continuing education programs. They must make sure they get 24 hours of continuing education every two years to maintain their ARRT registration.
  5. Maintain an adequate inventory of supplies. The staff will help by making a list of the needed supplies. The Director of Radiology, or someone they have trained will put the order into the ordering program in the computer system.
  6.  Research new supplies and compare costs and quality to find the best supplies for X-RAY.
  7. Make sure all equipment receives the PM according to service contract and equipment guidelines.
  8. Inform the Director of Radiology of budgetary needs for the X-RAY section. This includes Capital Equipment that needs budgeted for.
  9. Be able to schedule patients in the scheduling program.
  10. Be able to enter exams into the ordering program of the computer. Use this information to enter the patient into the modality with correct spelling of name, date of birth, medical records, and accession number.
  11. After exams are done, be able to edit exam in the PACs computer. Be able to send images to RIA that need to be sent for reading.
  12. Be able to look exams up in the RIA program. Be able to edit them, change the status to urgent or stat as needed. Know where to look for status of reading, find reports in the IntelePacs program.
  13. Maintain effective working relationships with other departments, as well as physicians, PAs and CNPs.
  14. Maintain effective relationships with patients and community.
  15. Perform Q.A. on equipment and maintain records, or they may as qualified technologist to perform Q.A. according to equipment protocol. Make sure records are adequately maintained.
  16. Performs other related duties

Education: 

  • High School Graduate

Experience: 

  • The Radiologic Technologist must attain two years of x-ray training in an accredited school of Radiologic Technology which qualifies them to take a national registry examination.
  • Upon passing the registry examination, the technologist is then an American Registered Radiologic Technologist (A.R.R.T.)
  • Two years of work experience in the field of Radiology in a hospital setting is preferred.3. Job Knowledge:
  • The Radiologic Technologist must have a good working knowledge of anatomy, understand the principles of physics, electricity and methods of obtaining clearly defined images; and to be able to set up and operate equipment.
  • They must know how to obtain diagnostic images.
  • They must be able to maintain the system of records, scheduling patients, and checking charges.
