Chadron Community Hospital and Health Services is excited to announce the expansion of its Specialty Clinic — a project aimed at meeting the growing demand for outpatient specialty care in our community. The construction will convert existing storage space into six additional exam rooms, bringing the total number of rooms from 11 to 17. An additional patient room will also be added in the existing Specialty Clinic space.
Hospital CEO Jon Reiners explained that the expansion is a direct response to increasing interest from specialty providers wanting to offer services in Chadron. “We’re at a point where more providers want to come and serve our community, but we simply didn’t have the space to accommodate them. This expansion is a critical step forward,” Reiners said.
Sydney Holmes, Vice President of Ancillary Services, noted that the Specialty Clinic operates as an outpatient space for both visiting and in-house specialists. “We currently work with 26 providers — a remarkable number for a critical access hospital,” she said. “In just the past three months, we’ve added three new providers, and we have three more looking to come on board.”
Chadron’s location makes it an ideal hub for specialists traveling from cities like Scottsbluff, Rapid City, and parts of Colorado. In 2024 alone, the clinic recorded 6,553 patient visits — an average of 596 visits per room. With the addition of six new rooms, the clinic will be able to accommodate an estimated 3,574 more visits annually.
Fortunately, the hospital is able to use existing infrastructure for the expansion, avoiding the need for new construction. “Having the storage space available — with utilities already in place — has made this a smart, cost-effective way to grow,” Reiners added.
Holmes also pointed out that the new space is being thoughtfully designed to improve patient flow and correct some of the limitations in the current layout. “We’re building for both efficiency and patient comfort,” she said.
The hospital is targeting an August 2025 opening for the new clinic space. During construction, we ask for your patience and understanding with any noise or disruption.
