Chadron Hospital Welcomes General Surgeon Dr. Shane B. Banks Beginning in October
CHADRON, Neb. — Chadron Hospital is pleased to announce that Shane B. Banks, D.O., FACS, a board-certified general surgeon with extensive military and rural healthcare experience, will begin seeing patients through Chadron Hospital’s Specialty Clinic in October.
Patients do not need a referral to schedule an appointment with Dr. Banks. Appointments can be scheduled directly through the Chadron Hospital Specialty Clinic by calling 308-432-5586, Option 5.
Dr. Banks brings extensive surgical experience to the region, having performed more than 5,300 operations throughout his career. His broad general surgery practice includes care for conditions involving the gastrointestinal system, abdomen and its organs, breast diseases, skin and soft tissue cancers and conditions, hernias, wound healing and traumatic injuries.

Raised on a small farm in rural southwest Missouri, Dr. Banks went on to become the first young man from his hometown to graduate from the United States Air Force Academy, where he was a Distinguished Graduate. He earned his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine degree from the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine before completing his general surgery training through Keesler Medical Center and The University of Texas Health Science Center/Wilford Hall.
Dr. Banks later served as an active-duty surgeon in the United States Air Force at Offutt Air Force Base in Nebraska and Keesler Air Force Base in Mississippi. During his military career, he deployed three times overseas, including deployments to Iraq, Afghanistan and South America. As a combat surgeon, he personally cared for more than 1,000 war casualties.
Following his military service, Dr. Banks transitioned to rural surgical practice in Nebraska, spending four years practicing in Ogallala. He currently practices in Grant, Nebraska, and his experience in rural medicine complements Chadron Hospital’s commitment to bringing high-quality specialty services to western Nebraska.
Dr. Banks is board certified by the American Board of Surgery and is a Fellow of the American College of Surgeons (FACS). He is also a member of the American College of Surgeons.
Outside of medicine, Dr. Banks enjoys music, NFL football and spending time with family and friends.
Dr. Banks will begin seeing patients at Chadron Hospital in October.
